The idea for this painting came first as a pun in word form. As soon as I thought of it, I started to laugh, and knew I had to do it. In deciding which painting of Monet's to use as the clawed object, I went through quite a few. I finally decided on "Garden at Giverny" because it allowed the viewer's eye to enter the space beside the cat.
